In a one-piece ostomy system, the ostomy bag and skin barrier (wafer/flange) are joined. As one-piece ostomy bags are more discreet compared to two-piece units, they are often preferred when a lower profile is desired. One-piece ostomy appliances can be pre-cut or cut-to-fit.

Two-piece ostomy bags are generally gentler on the skin because the skin barrier can remain in place for approximately 3–6 days. The ostomy bag can be changed without the need to remove the skin barrier. Our team of researchers has decades of experience in the medical field. Closed-end appliances are intended for one-time use only and can be replaced as often as needed. Closed-end appliances are commonly used every day or for certain occasions.

Drainable appliances are suitable for colostomies, urostomies, and ileostomies. The drainable appliance can be emptied as needed. Several appliance closure options are available, including clip, foam wire, adhesive wire, and rigid plastic stem interlock systems (clean Velcro).

Pediatric and mini ostomy appliances are typically extremely discreet. Because they are less visible under clothing, they offer a low-profile solution, although they generally require more frequent emptying due to their smaller capacity. These are also suitable for fistulas output management.

Stoma caps are small, closed-end appliances that provide a high level of discretion. They are intended to be worn for short periods of time.

Ostomy wafers (also known as flanges or skin barriers) are adhered to the skin around the stoma and connected to the ostomy appliance. The size and thickness of the wafer depend on the shape and size of the stoma. Flanges are available in both pre-cut and cut-to-fit configurations with different tape options.

SMP’s adhesive remover wipes and sprays are specially formulated to gently release medical adhesives while helping maintain skin comfort and integrity. Designed for use with ostomy, wound care, and medical devices, these solutions provide effective adhesive removal without unnecessary pulling or irritation. Enriched with skin-conditioning ingredients, SMP’s removers help leave skin feeling clean, refreshed, and ready for the next application. 

Our protective pectin-based paste formulations help prevent leakage and skin irritation around the stoma. These pastes are filled into easy-to-squeeze tubes to help users dispense the paste effortlessly and quickly. Formulations may include alcohol for faster drying which helps to seal and prevent skin irritation around the stoma and are ideal fillers for problem areas.

We have also developed no-sting barrier pastes that utilize an alcohol-free formulation to reduce the stinging and discomfort often associated with alcohol-based pastes.

SMP’s stoma powder is a gentle, pectin-based formulation designed to support healthy peristomal skin and enhance the crusting process. When used with a barrier film or skin protectant, it helps absorb moisture, improve adhesion, and create a protective layer between the skin and ostomy appliance. Developed with skin comfort in mind, SMP stoma powder provides reliable protection while helping maintain the ideal environment for sensitive skin. 

Our cohesive / moldable seals are ring-shaped proprietary hydrocolloids that are ideal for any type of ostomy. These conforming seals create a secure seal at the base of the stoma and are highly absorbent. SMP's range of formulations all promote longer pouch wear time and are easily removed from the skin. The rings are conformable and stretchable with strong tack and require no cutting. Our rings do not melt down and are designed to hug the stoma with high adhesion to the skin, making it an excellent alternative to paste.

SMP's variety of skin barrier strips / extensions can be used in many configurations, on top of or under a pouching wafer. The skin barrier can be placed directly on irritated skin, creating a smooth platform to adhere the pouch or wafer. Our hydrocolloid skin barrier strips protect the skin from trauma caused by repetitive removal of tapes and adhesives. Over the wafer’s tape, the skin barrier strips can be placed around the wafer to secure the edges from lifting, crunching, or loosening, providing extra security. Skin barrier strips are an excellent replacement for waterproof tapes. These non-sterile skin barrier hydrocolloids are a great tape alternative and can be customized with any formulation and in a variety of shapes, including soft-arc, Y-shape, C-shape, tapered shapes, 2x2, 4x4, 6x6, and 7x7.

SMP develops and manufactures several deodorant and appliance cleaner formulations. Our proprietary odor eliminators help reduce odor and assist with emptying pouch contents.

Our clear formulation provides effective odor control, contains no perfumes or artificial scents, and can include a lubricating agent to help pouch contents empty more easily. It is available in a variety of viscosities. In addition to these important ostomy accessories, we provide black zip-lock disposal bags in packs of 60 and natural pouch-cleaning solutions to help patients confidently manage their lives.
