About Sarasota Medical Products, Inc

Innovation Driven by Experience. Solutions Inspired by Patients.

Sarasota Medical Products (SMP) is a veteran-owned medical device manufacturer focused on advancing ostomy, wound care, and healthcare adhesive technologies through innovation, quality, and patient-centered design. Founded in 2010, SMP develops and manufactures high-performance medical products for healthcare professionals, distributors, and patients worldwide.

The company was established by Dr. Walter F. Leise III, a U.S. Army veteran, scientist, and medical device innovator. With a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Chicago and extensive experience leading healthcare R&D and manufacturing teams, Dr. Leise founded SMP to address real-world patient challenges through advanced adhesive technologies and collaborative development.

From the outset, SMP has prioritized improving comfort, reliability, and quality of life. By working closely with clinicians, distributors, and patients, the company has become a trusted partner in custom hydrocolloid technologies, ostomy products, wound care solutions, and medical adhesives. Early innovations in stretch-release adhesive technology led to hydrocolloid formulations now used across a range of healthcare applications.

Today, SMP offers comprehensive, turn-key manufacturing and private-label solutions, including product design, research and development, converting, laminating, packaging, process engineering, quality systems, and regulatory support. Its multidisciplinary team partners with customers to bring ideas to market while maintaining rigorous standards of quality and performance.

Innovation remains central to SMP’s growth. The company holds 25 patents across U.S. and international markets, reflecting decades of expertise in adhesive-based medical technologies for wound care, ostomy care, and skin protection.

Headquartered in Sarasota, Florida, SMP designs and manufactures its products in the United States while serving customers globally. Through continued innovation, strategic growth, and a commitment to patient needs, Sarasota Medical Products delivers solutions that empower patients to confidently manage their lives.
